Meditation

Jon Kabat-Zinn defines meditation as the "practice of paying attention." I like that. I subscribe to that. What a brief and succinct definition. To me the key to meditation is to demystify it - to uncomplicate it. That in itself is almost Zen-like. Yet many of us stop in our tracks when we think of meditation because we do complicate it.

Don't get me wrong, there is room for deep tantric meditation, for consciousness altering deep meditation. I just want more people to begin to meditate - to take the journey towards mindfulness - to learn to be present in their lives - to learn to access what being present feels like.

In all things - music, mediation, mindfulness, magic, masculinity - it is the power of presence that can help us achieve all things, attain all things. It takes hard work to be present. It takes energy. And it takes a commitment to it, to self, and the world we are in.

Be present to the journey, be present on the journey. Be the journey.
